The Petition
In the great state of Texas, Independent candidates are not afforded the option to pay a filing fee to participate in an election for congress. Instead, in most cases, and in our candidate's case, a petition with “original, non-digital, wet signature” is required to make application to be on the November general ballot. See Texas Elections Code Chapter 277.002.
But here is the kicker... Independent candidates are Not Allowed To Start Collecting Signatures until after the Democrat/Republican primaries. In 2026, there will be a very small window between Wednesday, March 4th and Thursday, June 25th (16-weeks) to get the required signatures. And the signers must be registered District-5 voters who did Not vote for a U.S. House of Representative in a primary election. The start date could move if there is a primary run-off.
***SIGNERS MUST HAVE NOT VOTED FOR A DISTRICT-5 CANDIDATE IN THE PRIMARY ELECTION.***
For now, the campaign team is primarily focused on one thing... preparing for the Petition Period.
Call To Action:
We need two types of supporters:
District-5 Voters to sign-up to be a signer once the petition window opens.
Referrals to District-5 Voters for once the petition window opens.
The clock is ticking.
